EV range in winter: what actually changes

Cold weather thickens battery chemistry and steals energy for cabin heat, so most EVs show 15–30 percent less range in deep winter. That sounds dramatic until you translate it: a 340-mile car still covers 240-plus miles, far beyond the average 40-mile day.

You can claw most of it back. Precondition the cabin while plugged in, use heated seats instead of blasting hot air, and keep the car garaged when you can. Heat-pump-equipped models — like everything in our current lineup — lose noticeably less than older resistive-heater designs.
